About us
Environment Students Society, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Students Union (EVSS, HKUSTSU) is a new society set up by students who are studying in the program of Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) in HKUST. We are a non-profit making, student-run, non-political organization. Our mission is To Plant an Idea of Sustainability in People. The objectives which help to achieve the mission are to raise environmental consciousness, encourage environmental studies, and introduce the application in the field of environmental conservation. It integrates the elements of environment, business, science and technology. We hope to unite students to devote to the environment, promote a green sense and contribute to environmental conservation in the society. On top of introducing global environmental problems, our society would also like to emphasize the concept of green business as a new business opportunity and solution to current environmental problems. Our society also supports and encourages organic business, which lead to a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
Phlox is the cabinet of Environment Students' Society, HKUSTSU, session 2015-16. the name itself has three meanings.
Flowers act as the basis for seeds to give rise to a myriad of them. They represent the passion in EVSS that could be passed from one cabinet to another.
Besides, Phlox is a genus of roughly 67 species of flowers, covering a large array of colors. It signifies that EVSS is a big family with members coming from different walks of life.
Moreover, Phloxes are seen as fast-growing, implying the bonds between members in EVSS could be quickly developed and easily nurtured. Together we blossom, grow, and create a significant impact.
